Start-ups and Defense: Do We Need a New Perspective on Dual Use Technologies

While the deep tech ecosystem of research institutions, startups, investors and corporations in the U.S., but also in China, has always worked quite closely with the military, it was mostly taken for granted by the majority of scientists, entrepreneurs, investors, but also managers in Germany and Europe in recent years to develop their own technologies only with regard to civilian, i.e. non-military use cases. However, almost all deep tech innovations - from artificial intelligence to quantum computers and space technologies - have a dual-use character, i.e. they can be used both for civilian and military purposes. In view of the Russian war against Ukraine, this attitude is being questioned. And that is exactly what will be discussed in this panel discussion.
