DOING Twitter: Towards a constructivist turn in tweeting

Criticism of social media like Twitter can easily be misused to dismiss the responsibility of users: "I didn't use hate speech, the algorithm did!" To avoid such a deterministic understanding of media, I propose to extend the constructivist concept of "Doing Gender" towards "Doing Twitter". After all, Twitter was not intended to be what it is today: one of the most important global networks for journalism, politics, and activism. Only specific forms of "doing" have made it so – can they continue to change it?
