Futures Probes
Futures Probes, Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics, SFB 1261
The futuring collective Futures Probes, together with the Leibniz Institute, developed new outreach formats for the SFB 1261 researching biomagnetic sensing. Since many research topics can feel abstract to non experts, futuring offers a way to translate emerging technologies into possible everyday contexts. This helps to make their societal relevance more tangible, relatable, and open for discussion.

What if …? Speculating biomagnetic sensing
Our body creates tiny electrical currents in the heart, brain, and muscles. Every current also generates a magnetic field. Today, we mainly measure this electrically, but the process is error-prone and complex. That is why researchers have been working for decades on biomagnetic sensing. Infictional future stories, we explore how this technology could change daily life and society. Visitors are invited to get inspired, discuss fictional scenarios, and sort them by how likely, possible, and desirable they seem.
