Johann Scheerer

Johann Scheerer ist Musiker, Musikproduzent, Autor und Gründer von Clouds Hill, einem unabhängigen Musikunternehmen aus Hamburg mit Studio, Label, Verlag und Filmproduktion. 1999, mit 17 Jahren, veröffentlichte er mit seiner Band Score! sein erstes Album bei Sony/Epic. Nach dem Abitur gründete er 2003 sein erstes Studio und 2005 das vollständig analoge Clouds Hill Studio, das sich zu einem der renommiertesten Aufnahmestudios weltweit entwickelte.

Als Produzent und Engineer arbeitete er u. a. mit At the Drive-In, Bosnian Rainbows, Peter Doherty, Faust und Omar Rodríguez-López.

Clouds Hill veröffentlicht weltweit Musik und erzielte zB mit The Mars Volta und Kadavar internationale Top-10-Charterfolge.

Scheerer ist darüber hinaus als Autor tätig .Seine drei Romane erschienen bei Piper. Sein erster Roman, der Bestseller „Wir sind dann wohl die Angehörigen“ wurde von Hans-Christian Schmid verfilmt. Scheerer schreibt als Gastautor in der Zeit, FAZ und im Spiegel über Streamingökonomie und Plattformmacht. Er bringt eine praxisnahe Perspektive auf das Zusammenspiel von künstlerischer Entwicklung, Ensemblearbeit und zeitgenössischen Produktionsbedingungen mit.


Johann Scheerer is a musician, music producer, author, and founder of Clouds Hill, an independent music company based in Hamburg encompassing a studio, label, publishing, and film production. In 1999, at the age of 17, he released his first album with his band Score! on Sony/Epic. After graduating high school, he founded his first studio in 2003 and in 2005 the fully analog Clouds Hill Studio, which has since become one of the most renowned recording studios in the world.

As a producer and engineer he has worked with At the Drive-In, Bosnian Rainbows, Peter Doherty, Faust, and Omar Rodríguez-López, among others. Clouds Hill releases music worldwide and has achieved international Top 10 chart success with The Mars Volta and Kadavar. Scheerer is also an author — his three novels were published by Piper, and his debut, the bestseller Wir sind dann wohl die Angehörigen, was adapted into a film by Hans-Christian Schmid. He writes as a guest author for Die Zeit, FAZ, and Der Spiegel on streaming economics and platform power. He brings a practice-based perspective on the interplay between artistic development, ensemble work, and contemporary production conditions.
