Janet Grau

Janet Grau is an interdisciplinary artist born in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, and based in Germany since 1999. With a Master of Fine Arts from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Cleveland Institute of Art, she is recognized for her experimental, performative, and participatory projects that make complex social and scientific issues accessible through aesthetic storytelling, humor, and visual allegory. Grau is committed to outreach and collaboration with diverse social groups, using performance, photography, video, and installation to create spaces for dialogue and reflection at the intersection of art, science and activism. Her work has been supported by numerous grants and exhibited in solo and group shows across Germany, including recent lecture performances on cognitive science topics such as cultural transmission and “mattering theory.” She is active in art education and serves on the boards of several cultural organizations.
